Travis McLain is a Lead Health Guide based out of Dallas, TX. He supports a team of health guides and serves as the primary escalation point for Member concerns.
Travis began his care career within the dialysis industry. During his 15 years helping people with end-stage renal disease, Travis witnessed the many obstacles of our healthcare system. He saw firsthand how socioeconomic and geographic disparities can keep people from the healthcare they deserve.
Today, Travis regularly connects Members to the comprehensive care they need. He shared a story about a mother who was seeking specialized care for her autistic son. Her tireless search to find him help for his unique needs was mentally and emotionally taxing on her. When she finally found clinicians who truly connected with her son, she discovered they were out of network. Travis collaborated with the Member and her insurance carrier to help secure an out-of-network exception.
“Access to care should not be dictated by privilege, circumstance, or systemic barriers, but instead by the fundamental belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life.”
Travis believes health equity is about compassion and proactive advocacy for all, especially in the LGBTQ community. He encourages clinicians to educate themselves on the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups. He shares, “Education isn’t just about learning -- it’s about cultivating empathy, ensuring that every individual is not simply treated, but truly seen, affirmed, and empowered.”
In Travis’ eyes, equity is about authentically embracing every individual no matter their background. “Every contribution matters to make a difference.”
